Venice – the most beautiful city in the world | Italy

The world famous city lying on the lagoon. The romantic city full of the canals and the historic city full of museums and monuments. That’s Venice (Venezia), located in the north-eastern part of Italy.

Venice is absolutely the most important tourist destination, located on the northern coast of the Adriatic Sea. With its romantic location and unique charm attracts thousands of tourists from around the world. Its historical, artistic and cultural heritage makes it the world’s cultural center. There are several important museums and galleries of all mankind. During the year, Venice hosts several large celebrations and festivals (e.g. great Venice Carnival).

Venice, the capital of Veneto, has over 360,000 inhabitants, however, only about 100,000 of them live in historic Venice, on the islands in the lagoon. The rest live on the coast of Venice-Mestre. This part consists of industrial and transportation center, it is a new part of town. Historic Venice is situated on the 118 islands connected by about 400 bridges.

The most attractive place of Venice is certainly Square of San Marco (Piazza San Marco), where are several great monuments like Doge’s Palace, St. Mark’s Cathedral or the Piazzetta with two columns – the symbols of Venice.

Also important is the Grand Canal (Canal Grande) – which is considered the most beautiful street in the world.
